Greetings!
Welcome to The Cosmic Flea, my increasingly elaborate corner of the internet built for finding things, making things, and wondering about things.
The Flea began with a love of discovery: the feeling of coming across something you hadn’t seen before and immediately wanting to know more. Here, that curiosity stretches a little farther. I search for interesting finds from makers, shops, and suppliers around the world, gathering them into one market where you can wander without having to know exactly what you’re looking for.
You might find a craft you’ve never tried, something beautifully made in a place you’ve never been, an oddly clever object, or a gift you wouldn’t have known how to search for.
And sometimes, the things I find inspire a little more imagination.
Some receive names and imagined stories of their own—not to pretend they have histories they don’t, but because I think curation can be creative too. A name can change the way you look at something. A tiny story can make you stop long enough to notice a detail you might otherwise have passed by.
Around here, finding the thing is only the beginning.
Why Cosmic Flea?
The name started, as many things around here do, with one idea jumping into another.
I have a lot of them. Fleas, apparently.
Somewhere along the way I became amused by the fact that fleas are essentially the rabbits of the bug world: tiny, ridiculous jumpers capable of launching themselves absurd distances for their size. That thought eventually became CF-144, our alien rabbit-flea mascot and trusty AI treasure scout. Once he existed, the Flea followed.
The cosmic part is considerably more ambitious.
I don’t want The Cosmic Flea to remain my strange little corner of the internet forever. I think curiosity is big enough to build something around. A place for discovering interesting things from around the world, making things, noticing things, following ideas, and seeing where they lead.
Maybe someday The Cosmic Flea can become a household name for that feeling.
A place people think of when they want to find something they didn’t know to look for. A community built around wondering. A flea market with shelves that can stretch as far as the idea takes them.
The ideas are fleas.
The possibilities are cosmic.
Wander & Wonder
The shop is only one part of The Cosmic Flea.
I’m interested in what happens when we give curiosity more room in everyday life—even in something as ordinary as shopping. What happens when, instead of arriving with a search term and heading straight for the thing we already know we want, we wander? When we browse without a destination, follow whatever catches our eye, and let ourselves wonder why it did?
That idea stretches beyond the shelves. It shows up when we make something simply to see what happens, learn the story behind an ordinary object, follow a question farther than necessary, or start paying attention to things we’d normally walk straight past.
The Cosmic Flea is my attempt to make a little more room for all of it.
Meaningful Things is the community side of that idea: a place for making, sharing, finishing, learning, and talking about the things that matter to us and why.
The Art of Noticing takes curiosity out into the world. It’s an ongoing collection of prompts and small experiments designed to make you look a little closer, follow an interesting thought, or notice something that was already there.
And throughout The Cosmic Flea, wonder is the thread connecting it all.
Wonder about where something came from.
Wonder how it was made.
Wonder what you could make yourself.
Wonder why something caught your attention in the first place.
A Place in the Static
That’s what I hope The Cosmic Flea becomes: a place where shopping can lead to making, making can lead to noticing, noticing can lead to wondering, and wondering can send you somewhere you never expected to go.
There are things here from across the world and ideas you can try without leaving home. There are imagined stories, real histories, things made by hand, things made for making, and ordinary objects that became more interesting simply because somebody stopped to look at them differently.
So wander a while.
